Have you ever seen a product and thought where have you been all my life?
I have.
I have this habit of visiting polar or sub-polar locations in winter. I’ve done Iceland in winter, Sweden in winter, Alaska in winter, and several trips to Canada in winter, including one rather interesting New Years where I developed icicles on my eyelashes.
When ActionHeat Battery Headed Apparel reached out to me to check out their product, my first thought is, why is this the first time I’m seeing this product? I HAVE to have it.

When I first found out about ActionHeat, I was mostly interested in their gloves and socks. I have never had issues keeping my upper body and legs warm, so I thought the pants and jackets were likely overkill for me. So, I really wanted to try out the ActionHeat gloves and socks.
ActionHeat 5V Featherweight Heated Gloves

I’m a huge photographer, and one of the most annoying things when taking photos in the cold is keeping your hands warm while being able to adjust your camera settings. Particularly when shooting the Northern Lights, you are always taking your thick warm gloves off so you can adjust the camera setting. Then your hand gets cold. The only solution is to get a lightweight thermal glove to go inside your thicker glow. But that setup is annoying, and you still lose a lot of heat out of your hands.
With the
For the gloves, the battery compartment is located on the top of the wrist, and it’s a little bulky when the battery is in the compartment. Personally, I’ll take a little bit of bulky is worth the annoyance for being able to keep my hands toasty and warm.
The control button is also located on the top of the wrist and is easy to use while wearing the gloves.

ActionHeat 5V Cotton Battery Heated Socks
Between the gloves and the socks, I was most excited about trying the
After testing these socks out while wearing my Muck boots in our Tennessess’s pre-Christmas snow, I thought these socks are amazing. I let my feet get good and cold before I turned them on, and within minutes, my feet were toasting warm at the lowest setting. There is no doubt in my mind that these socks would have been epic to have in Kaktovik.
Without turning these socks on, they are on pair with pretty much every pair of hiking socks I own. The beauty of them is that when you stop moving, all you have to do to keep your feet warm is hit a button, and they start to heat up. Keeping your feet warm for the duration of your stop.
The biggest downside to these socks is the battery life. They get about 5 hours of battery life at the lowest setting. That isn’t the greatest for a 7-day backpacking trip in Gates of the Arctic, but the batteries are lightweight, and with a second set and careful use, you could probably keep your feet warm for the whole trip.

Hell yes. I’ve asked for a pair of the
Frequently Asked Questions about ActionHeat
Is Heated Clothing Safe?
For the most part, heated clothing is safe. You should always read the warnings and only use them within their specifications. ActionHeat has designed their heat packs not to overheat but you can burn yourself on the high heat settings. It is not recommended to use their high heat settings for more than 5 minutes at a time.
How long do the ActionHeat Batteries last?
The battery packs last between 2 and 7 hours depending on the clothing item and settings (the engineer in me also says that outside temperature will play some role as well, but I don’t know how much).
Given that most lithium-ion batteries have a lifecycle of 300-500 charges, I’d expect that you will need new battery packs every 2-4 years. As for the clothing, the quality of my socks and gloves seems like they will last for several years.
Are the ActionHeat Batteries interchangeable?
It depends. ActionHeat has four removable different battery types and a selection of built-in batteries. Within the removable batteries, the batteries are interchangeable. Your 5V batteries can be used in any ActionHeat product that takes 5V batteries.
I recommend sticking with one battery type, so you have extra batteries when you aren’t using all your ActionHeat products.
