Can you tour Denali on your own?

Private cars aren’t allowed past mile 15 on Denali Park Road. Only National Park Service buses are allowed past this point, making bus tours the primary way for travelers to explore the national park. This is to reduce traffic throughout the national park, so as not to disturb the local wildlife. It’s worked well, as the wildlife are now accustomed to the buses running through and will often wander right up to the road!

However, you can drive up to Denali Visitor Centre, the park headquarters, and Savage River Campground, as they are all found just before mile 15. From here, there are a variety of self-guided hikes available including the Savage River Loop Trail, the Triple Lakes Trail, and the Mount Healy Trail.
